My reality beats yours any day

jennifer_dunne and I went up to Ithaca on the semi-annual shoe shopping expedition. Since it's graduation weekend for Ithaca College, there was dutiful consideration given to finding a place for lunch that wouldn't be mobbed with students and parents. I suggested Catherine's Estate... then realized that it only existed within the pages of one of my stories. Oops.
This kind of thing never happened to me when I was writing medieval fantasies.
Instead we wound up at the Moosewood Restaurant, which was very good, and then proceeded to the locally famous shoe store on Eddy Street ("Since before you were born") where I managed to acquire a pair of summer shoes. I now own two pairs of shoes that can be worn with the latest orthotics--sneakers and my new not-quite-sandals. Should these shoes work out, I'll head back up in a couple of weeks and buy them in a second color. Three pairs of shoes ought to be enough to keep me going between now and frost season.

Nice on the shoes. I only have one pair at a time ;-p.
If the sandals work out, you should definitely get a second pair.
orthotics

Date: 2008-05-19 12:59 am (UTC)The brand I bought is Rieker, and I think the style name was Cornelia, but if you websearch Rieker you should be able to spot it. The key is the closed back so the arch stays put. I've had decent luck with this brand before--most Rieker styles have removable insoles, which can be helpful in making the orthotic fit.
My usual shoe shopping routine is to hit all of the local stores, give up in disgust, and then make the drive to the specialty store where when you tell the salesperson you wear orthotics, they nod knowingly and begin telling you which shoes are working well for their customers.

Date: 2008-05-19 01:35 am (UTC)The primary issue with sandals are the open heels - and the turned up part shows. Without that, they wouldn't stay put in the shoe, so guess I'll live with it *smile*.

I picked up shoes by Merrell (http://www.onlineshoes.com/productpage.asp?gen=w&pcid=99095) and Keane (http://www.onlineshoes.com/productpage.asp?gen=w&pcid=88036), which are great for short, wide paws with high-insteps.
