Good things: First Friday in Binghamton, and receiving a royalty check in the mail for a deal I'd totally forgotten about.

Bad things: a mediocre meal at a formerly favorite restaurant which is now under new ownership--new paint can't make up for an uninspired menu and a truly unfortunate combination of ingredients in my panini. This was then followed by a shoe shopping expedition that resulted in zero shoes acquired. I know I have difficult feet, but this is getting ridiculous.

Indulgence: fresh donuts from the Cider Mill, mmmmmmmmmm. An entire day's supply of saturated fat, and that was just the first donut.

Baseball has been very good to me: I've been watching baseball this past week, mostly catching the ends of games late at night. My team didn't make it to the post-season this year, but I've been keeping an eye on the Rockies since that's my sister's team, and watching the Red Sox. I left the holy church of Fenway in the 1980s, but I still observe the annual rite of faith as we pray "Please, let it be anyone but the Yankees."

So far tonight Clemens had been bounced out, and the Indians are up. Be very interesting if all four division series wind up as 3-0 sweeps.

And now it's off to get ready for another week at the day job....

"Please, let it be anyone but the Yankees."

Ha! Seattle Mariners fans feel the same way. (We didn't make the post season either, alas).

Isn't it great how we can all unite for the same cause? :-)

It's great how fans of different teams can unite in our loathing for the Yankees.

Alas they won last night, but the Indians still have two more chances to take them down.

Many years ago there was an article in one of the New York papers regarding the true nature of the Yankee Hater. Did we wish for Satan's team to lose every game, every year? Or did we want them to go all the way to the last out of the 7th game of the World Series, and lose there?

I think there is no question. If you hate the Yankees, you want them to lose every game. That other kind is just a new form of masochism.

June was a very good time for Yankees-haters. Sadly they started winning more games than they were losing.

I think the swarm of midges on Friday night was actually the ghosts of all the Yankees-haters who have gone to the great beyond, but were able to return on that one night to express their contempt.

A classic Steinbrenner moment, those midges. Notice they only bothered his team. Then again, if your thesis is true, he had reason.

It's sad when a restaurant changes hands to its detriment :(.

I didn't know you were close to Ithaca?

As far as the baseball goes, it will be anyone but the Yankees. They seem to be the tankees this year.

Ithaca's about an hour's drive from where I live, so I get up there several times a year. It's a pretty drive, except in winter weather.
