I'm back home after the bike trip, and (nearly) 10 days without internet access. Had a fabulous time biking in Oregon, with the highlight being our days at Crater Lake. But getting there and back was the least fun part of the trip (Upstate New York-->Connecticut-->Portland, Oregon-->Eugene, Oregon), and then the reverse at the end of the trip.

I now possess a suitcase filled with 41 lbs of dirty laundry and assorted bike gear, plus a camera full of photographs which I need to upload.

It was a large group (19 guests plus 3 guides), but we all had fun together.

Proving that it's a small world, four of our fellow bikers on this trip had been on a previous trip with Stacey and I four years ago--the boys have been taking bike trips together for over 20 years, while Stacey and I are working on our 11th, so we have a while to catch up to them. Another of the bikers was [livejournal.com profile] suricattus's uncle Larry, who also works in the publishing industry.

I'll post a longer report later, and will try to catch up with the friendslist, but after 10 days, if there's anything I need to know you should probably drop me a pointer to it.

Later!

whoa, where did you go exactly? that is my country - where I grew up (near Eugene, but my family camped extensively when I was a sprout).

We started off Saturday in Oakridge and biked the McKenzie Pass, Sisters, along the Cascade Scenic Highway, Sunriver, then the long climb into Crater Lake National Park where we stayed at the lodge. We spent a day biking around the lake, and on the final day we biked down from Crater Lake, around Diamond Lake and finished up in the Umpqua forest where we packed up for the long van ride back to Portland.

Fabulous scenery and we spent several days without seeing a single fast food restaurant or chain store, which really made it feel like a vacation.

Yes, I know that country. Fabulous. I hope it wasn't too hot, but I guess you were at elevation (it's been known to snow in July at Crater Lake).

It was absolutely amazing. I took dozens of pictures, but none of them do justice to the feeling of being there.

I want to go back.
