Get up at usual time, have breakfast and coffee.

Surf web. (Whee, wipeout!)

Write for about 2 hours.

Grab lunch.

Bike for 90 minutes. Discover that favorite bike route is jammed with cars & trucks because it's being used as detour during road construction... which is expected to last until winter.

Sulk.

Shower.

Nap!

Write more.

Decide 2,500 words is good enough for today.

Open front door to see that author copies for THE SEA CHANGE have arrived. Bantam gets gold stars for sending them before the book hits the stores. *Pets the new book*

Now dinner, then over to check out [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow's place, and a rendezvous of the Friday night gamers. And people say writers don't lead exciting lives.

My sympathies on the construction detour. They took out the bridge about a half-mile south of my house. It doesn't interfere with my usual walk *too* much, but I'm getting very, very tired of giving out directions two or three times a day to people who think the 'detour' sign means 'the bridge is out for everyone but the important folks such as myself'.

Aren't you ever tempted to steer them wrong?

Today I watched as a tractor trailer ignored the arrow that said "Truck detour straight" and instead turned right following the signs for the car detour. About half a mile down the road there's an overhead walkway that he's not going be able to get under. If I hadn't been turning for home, I might have biked down just to watch him trying to back up. Or slamming into it.

The world is just full of people who refuse to follow instructions, isn't it? I meet them (virtually, that is) all the time at work ...

Congrats on the book-arrival! I bet that never gets old :^)

My correct directions are bad enough, I think. *g* But, yes, the temptation to send them to Rochester, or Erie, PA is always lurking in the back of my mind.

(Which reminds me of my younger sister, who spent a summer working at a Burger King on the Maine Turnpike, and entertained herself by sending the Quebecois on to Massachusetts rather than Old Orchard Beach. Heh.)

Well I don't hit quite the decibels I did with my first book. But it is still very exciting, and like any proud parent I carry it with me and make all my friends & family admire it.

And yes, the first time I see the book on the shelf in a bookstore I will squeak like an overexcited hamster.

If you only squeak like an overexcited hamster, I'll be over here admiring your maturity and restraint ;^).
