Well my final Wiscon schedule arrived. I'm on three panels, and moderating one of them:

The Role of Women and People of Color in Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis
Sunday, 1:00-2:15 p.m. Joanna Lowenstein, M: Patricia Bray, Wendy Bradley, K Tempest Bradford

SF&F on TV This Season
Sunday, 2:30-3:45 p.m. Deborah Stone, Penny Hill, Patricia Bray, M: William Alexander

How To Do Good Work in High Fantasy
Sunday, 4:00-5:15 p.m. Jennifer W. Spirko, M: Delia Sherman, Sarah Monette, Kelly D. Link, Patricia Bray

So I'm booked all Sunday afternoon and free the rest of the weekend.

Two of the panels that I'd earlier been slated to be on are no longer there--"Dead Harry: Killing your protagonist: genius or folly?" and "Second Acts in Writing and Publishing." Kinda bummed, since those both looked like they'd be fun panels. But still, three panels is enough, and I'm looking forward to a good time.

I had a couple of panels deleted as well.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I'd been a tad concerned, since it took so long for them to send me my final schedule....

Oh, poo: I was looking forward to hearing all about the "Dead Harry" panel. ;)

Hey, do you ever come to cons in Toronto?

Yeah, I wanted to do the Dead Harry, Pining for the Fjords panel.

The only Toronto con I've been to was Torcon3 back in 2003. But really, it's no further from where I live than Boston is, so I supposed I'd consider it.

What cons do they have in Toronto? There's Ad Astra in the winter, right?

I remember Torcon3! That is, I wasn't actually there, but DH and I waited in line for the Neil Gaiman signing sort-of-across-the-street for a couple of hours, and thus talked to a whoooole bunch of people who were there. Notably the one other person in the bookstore who happened to be nursing a baby while lining up ;).

Ad Astra is the main one I know about, because DH knows someone who's on the committee. (Can I remember this person's name? No, of course not. But if Ad Astra does in fact interest you, I could certainly find out.) It's usually in the February/March range. The other cons I hear about are mainly focused on comic and/or anime (Toronto Comicon; Anime North), again because DH is a fairly serious collector and Knows People.

Which is to say that I don't normally go to cons, but I totally would if I got to meet Awesome LJ Fantasy Author Personalities Whose Books I Really Like.

Hee, I probably walked right by you in 2003. I had hit con overload and decided I would take a walk and visit a local bookstore to see what they had on the shelves. Then I came across the line of people stretching round the block as they waited to see Neil Gaiman, so I realized I was never going to get inside the store. Instead I turned around, went down to a place by the water and had fish & chips & beer instead.

Mmm, fish & chips with vinegar and beer. Mmm. Now you've made me hungry.

I'll keep Ad Astra in mind for next year. And, of course, if I'm going, I'll announce it here. It would be fun, but to be honest, the drive at that time of year can be a bit iffy--the stretch of New York I'd be driving through gets regularly slammed with lake effect snow. Not a problem for a September con, but definitely something that figures into plans for February or March.

The Fish House, perhaps? Mmmmm.

Rats, now I'm hungry too :P

I hadn't thought about the weather, but, yeah ... not a nice drive, I would imagine.

The con has grown, and there are more folks to program. When the preliminary schedule came through, I was surprised to see as much programming as I did. What I wound up with is more what I expected.

So, DH says his Ad Astra buddy (whose name, it turns out, is Paul Salivar; see this link (http://www.ad-astra.org/Committee.php) for further info) has been talking about changing the date of the con to a more user-friendly season.

Just sayin'. ;)

What I'm really hoping, of course, is that in a couple of years I'll be at Ad Astra signing my own book ::daydreams in manner of Anne Shirley::

That would be so totally cool. And I would buy a copy and make you sign it.

Yes, from the website it sounds like this will be nearly as big as WFC. I think they hit (or are about to hit) their registration cap.

:D

(This userpic is my protagonist, btw. At least, he sometimes looks like that.)

The first draft is finished now, so I'm one infinitesimal step closer to this than I was two weeks ago ...

They hit it. The cap used to be 850--the new cap is 1000.

I hope they never outgrow the Concourse, but the con is becoming more and more popular.

I'm sure you'll have a great time at Wiscon, but we will miss you at Balticon.

Of course, if I had my druthers, I'd be at Wiscon, too ...

I'll miss seeing you and everyone else at Balticon. It was a real tossup between the two, but I figured I'd give Wiscon a try, since so many people have declared this a "must go" convention.
