Shiny toy!

Whee! I bought an iPod Nano today. I've wanted one for a while, but couldn't justify spending the money. Finally decided that a) I deserved it, and b) it would help motivate me to workout at the gym where I'm usually surrounded by TVs blaring programs that drive me crazy.

So it's a "To Patricia, From Patricia, Happy Early Birthday" present. A very big deal for someone who remembers back when the dividing class line was who could afford a Sony Walkman and who couldn't. I was on the have-not side of that equation, so this is also a bit of delayed gratification.

Anyway, cheerfully loading CDs and investigating options for sports holders. Looking forward to the gym tomorrow!

Good for you! :D ::tries not to be jealous of shiny toy::

I am strongly in favour of self-addressed birthday presents. This year I am buying myself a new haircut (after 2 years of growing out the accursed chevelure in order to donate it for kids' chemo wigs), and I can't wait!!

That's a very kind thing to do. I admire your discipline, since I'm sure you must have been tempted to just hack it all off.

iPods definitely help with the workout discipline, and blot out other noise well. I didn't realize how loud my treadmill was until one of the earbuds fell out one day.

Good to know. I'm looking forward to avoiding the stress-inducing sounds of Fox News Channel....

I wondered if that was the network in question.

Yeah boy howdy, that would do it...

Yeah, see, if you've had cancer, you tend to know a lot of other people who've had cancer, and a lot of those tend to have lost all their hair. I was lucky enough not to, so I reckoned I should do some giving back to the community.

But "tempted" is a very serious understatement :P. I'd forgotten how much I don't like having long hair.

Big screen TV in the cycle room. And by big screen I mean one of those giant rear projection TVs, with volume set on "soon to need hearing aid crowd".

About half the time I work out the TV is set to ESPN or some other sports channel. And, about half the time it's not. It's that other half of the time that adds that extra special spike to the heartrate monitor :-)

So, it's a bit like working out at my father-in-law's old-age home ...

Excellent! Good for you! Did you opt for one of the generic ones, or did you get one of the snazzy new colors? ;-)

I picked silver--the new colors were okay but none were quite me. I would have picked black if they had it, but black only comes in the 8GB model.

The color is pretty much moot anyway, since it is going to spend most of its life in a sports holder, as soon as I decide which holder to get.

Ah, very good. [profile] nightwolfwriter and the daughter unit gave me a black one a couple of Christmases ago--when black and white were the only choices.

I hear you about the holder. Mine is one of the adjustable sports carriers that's worn on the arm. Happy hunting, there's a lot to choose from! :-)

I saw the post from Jennifer - Happy Birthday!

(even if you did join the ipod dark side. But you write and read good books, so I can forgive you).

If you get bored with music, or want to mix it up, check out some of the podcasts online, too. Escape Pod and Pseudopod fit nicely into a workout--or into the washing of a load of dishes. :-)
