At the beginning of this year my local RWA chapter asked if I'd be willing to present my "How to pitch your novel" workshop at the June meeting. I said "Sure, if there's enough interest" and promptly forgot about it. In the back of my mind, I was thinking that since I'd given the talk only a couple of years ago, that there wouldn't be a great deal of interest.
Except, of course, that we've had a number of new members join since the last time the Patricia show was in town. Members who are heading down to the national conference in NYC at the end of this month to pitch their books to editors and agents. And so, I'm on the hook.
Fortunately there's not a lot of work involved in the prep, since I've done this for the chapter at least a half-dozen times already. It's part talk, part demonstration, then we get to the audience participation part where I make each member pitch their novel to me on the theory that I'm far less scary than any editor or agent that they are going to meet. Really, I'm practically tame! :-D
