The great escape
May. 25th, 2010 12:55 pmBright & early Friday, Tom and I headed to Cape Cod for a long weekend. After a seven hour drive we reached Provincetown, checked into the B&B, then had a drink to celebrate our escape from the daily grind. We stretched our legs strolling around town, had another drink at a bar overlooking the harbor, then went for a fabulous dinner at Ross's Grill.
Saturday morning Tom's niece came over on the ferry from Boston to join us. After depositing her stuff at the B&B, we went for lunch at a restaurant that specialized in local food (sourced within 120 miles), then headed out to hike by Race Point on the national seashore. Returning to town, we went to another beachfront bar for a cocktail while we made plans, then decided to visit the galleries before dinner. Dinner was at Devon's where I had farro risotto. Sunday was more of the same--instead of hiking on the beach we climbed the Pilgrim monument for views of the town, then had a beer at a bar where we could people watch, followed by more galleries and shops, then dinner at Front Street for pasta. The first bar we stopped in for post dinner drinks was closing early(!) but they recommended a lovely place called the Joonbar where we hung out for a couple of hours, chatting.
We'd picked the weekend a couple of months back, and then found it was restaurant week, which was an added bonus. Every meal was amazing, and of course how can you beat a vacation where you can sit on the front porch and sip your coffee while watching the boats in the harbor?
Alas all too soon it was Monday, and though tempted to stay, we realized our bank accounts wouldn't support a permanent relocation to a life of ease. So we packed up, gave Tom's niece a ride back to Boston, then headed home, getting in late last night. Overall it was a great time, though I'm paying for it dearly now that I'm back at work. I had a laptop with me because I was on call, but spent very little time online so am far behind in both email and LJ news, and not quite sure when I'll catch up.
