I'm at that stage of the current project where breakfast reading consists of books of names as I need to find just the right names for my principals and then prepare lists of potential names that can be assigned to minor characters. (Secret message to [livejournal.com profile] teshilaire New, shiny? = Kolenka, which means born to the conquering people, and thus ties to half-breed.)

Taking today as a vacation day, so I'm filled with that special glee that comes from knowing most of the world is at work while I am not. Due to a combination of poor planning on my part and feckless coworkers, so far this year I've only taken a fraction of my vacation days. I need to start using them up, for my mental health if nothing else. Today's big plans include writing, a potential quest for a decent vegetable peeler, and if I'm feeling motivated I may drive up to Ithaca for lunch. Or not.

Last night was the writers' gathering at the Cybercafe, which was great fun, although at one point the drum soloist caused us to relocate to the outside patio. Before the others arrived I was making story notes for the new scene, which they insisted on reading to prove that I'd been working. And now as soon as I write the damn thing they'll get to see how I go from scribbled bullet points to the actual scene. Mostly that part involves sitting in the chair and applying liberal amounts of hot beverages or cold, depending on time of day.

I've heard from Plum Pictures Productions which responded to my first email with directions on how I could join the giant Lego build tomorrow, and then a subsequent email that warned they expected to have far more volunteers than they could accomodate, so not to travel great distances for fear of disappointment. Probably for the best then that I didn't cash in my USAirways points to fly over there, although with just a few more days of planning I could have pulled it off, and convinced someone to come along to live blog the experience.

Ah well, enough blathering, it's time to write!
