I'm getting ready for the annual bike trip. Right now I'm in that fun stage of making lists of things to pack.
The best part is that we need to be prepared for any kind of weather. Current conditions along the planned route include spots with daily highs near ninety, as well as places with lows in the 40s which means mornings will be chilly. So that means sleeveless jerseys, long sleeve thermals, and everything in between. Regular bike shorts and leg warmers. Sports bras and bike socks.
Plus wind gear. And rain gear. Because, unless there's lightning in the immediate area, we ride. (I've ridden in snow flurries, as well as temperatures over 100. Neither is fun, except when you're reminiscing later at the bar).
Then, of course, snacks. I'm allergic to nuts so rather than relying on others its safer if I bring my own energy bars and boxes of raisins. And a can of gatorade powder for mixing drinks.
Helmet, bike shoes, sunglasses, a first aid kit, sunscreen, bug stuff, low visibility armbands and my road-id (also known as roadkill id, a velcro id band with "in case this person is dead/unconscious please call" info.)
Oh, and there's a day of hiking in there, so I'll be wearing my hiking shoes on plane, and have hiking socks in luggage. And a bathing suit.
Then I need clothes for the times I'm not on the bike. Paperbacks to read, notebooks for taking notes, camera, toiletries, and I'm exhausted just making the list. And everything has to fit into one suitcase <=40 lbs or a backpack that gets carried onto plane.
Where's a good sherpa when you need one?
