Grr. Today I saw my first spoilers on HP#7--from someone who claims to have gotten a hold of a review copy and posted their impressions on the internet. Luckily it was behind an lj cut tag but I was still ticked.

Why can't I just enjoy the damn book rant? )

So, anyway, that's what I'm doing this weekend. And after I've read the book, I'm keeping my damn mouth shut.

Or in this case, a local restaurant. Where we sat down, placed our orders, and then [livejournal.com profile] jennifer_dunne began critiquing my most recent chapter, while I sat there in silence.

I'm sure that the waitress thought we were a trifle odd, if not anti-social. But one of the joys of committing to something like the novel-in-90 challenge is that I didn't just sign myself up, I also signed up my critique partner. The more I write, the more she has to critique.

Which, IMO, isn't quite as presumptuous as the time she volunteered to chair a writing conference and then informed me that IF chair IS EQUAL TO Jennifer THEN co-chair MUST BE EQUAL TO Patricia. But still, it's a commitment of time. So hanging out together often means one or both of us is reading & critiquing each other's work.

And because she's a tad competitive, it makes her more productive. After critiquing all my pages she's motivated to produce serious wordage of her own, so she'll be able to give me something to read.

[livejournal.com profile] novel_in_90, the gift that keeps on giving.
