pbray: (bike)
Looks like it's going to be a nice day here, but a glance out the window confirmed that it's time to put away the bike. It would be a good day for a ride, but it's just not safe to be on the roads.

Our town follows the quaint custom where homeowners rake their leaves into the streets to await pickup by the giant leaf-sucking machines. Already narrow roads become even narrower, and drivers aren't good about sharing the road with bicyclists who must swerve around leaf piles.

In most years they manage to get the leaves picked up before the first lasting snowfall (but not always). But by then there will be sand on the streets which is another hazard. Thus even though I have the necessary cold weather gear, I've found it wisest to leave the bike at home.

Which means it's time to find some other form of exercise. Even in the winter, I'll walk five days a week, but I need something more. I enjoy cross-country skiing, but that's been hit or miss around here for the last few winters, so looks like it's time to check out the local gyms. I dislike going to the gym, but I dislike exercising on my own at home even more.
