I like dogs. But I don't necessarily like their owners.

Today's cardiovascular peaks are brought to you by the intrepid cyling Patricia who pegged out on her heart rate scale each time a canine volunteered to eat escort me. Since I cycle on reasonably well-traveled streets, whenever I'm pursued I spend as much time worrying that the chasing dog will be hit by a car as I do about being bit. So far neither has happened, but there have been close calls.

Invisible fences are a special challenge, since when I glimpse a dog charging at high speed across his lawn, I have no way of knowing if he'll pull up at an invisible fence line or continue into the street, crossing lanes of traffic to get me. Today I had two dogs come out into the road, while one gave up at the end of his property line, perhaps due to an invisible fence or merely because once I'd moved past his property I was no longer a threat.

Not to mention the bonus points from yesterday when a dog being walked on a leash decided to lunge as I passed by and dragged his owner into the street. Luckily this happened on a flat stage so I was able to move by them fairly swiftly.

Be nice if folks would take the time to train their dogs, or at least to understand their dog's quirks. If your dog can't be trusted to remain on your property, then it's time to invest in a fence or a chain. I'm going to feel awful if anything happens to your dog because he decided to chase me.
