Bicycle! Bicycle!
Jun. 18th, 2006 10:16 pmThe Canadian Rockies bike trip is two short months away, so this weekend I went to my friend Stacey's so we could get together and train.
The forecast was for hot & sunny, so I didn't pack rain gear. Which turned out to be a mistake, as Saturday was cooler than expected, and we had rain on and off for the entire ride. The recent rain and cold here for the past weeks meant I'd slacked off on my training, but I did okay as we went up and down the rolling hills. After the ride Stacey, her husband Nick and I engaged in mock combat with his radio controlled tanks. Very cool stuff.
This morning was everything we'd thought Saturday would be--sunny and already brutally hot at 9AM. As I sat on my bike there was a brief moment when all body parts protested "Again? You've got to be kidding me!" I persisted and after about fifteen minutes of grumbling my body got with the program. Had a nice ride, then lunch and the drive back.
If the trip were tomorrow I'd be in trouble, but as it is I'm confident I'll be ready.
