Another day in paradise
Oct. 3rd, 2005 01:13 pmWriting: Did some revising this weekend, not as much progress as I would have liked but still forward momentum which is goodness. Met a friend of a friend for coffee and shoptalk-- she's a fantasy writer working on her first series, so we brainstormed potential markets and talked about the pros & cons of submitting directly to publishers versus seeking an agent. Always fun to meet a kindred soul, and a good time was had by all.
Reading: Finished Kim Harrison's EVERY WHICH WAY BUT DEAD. Her writing has gotten stronger with each book in the series, and I'm looking forward to the next one which should be out in 2006 sometime. Started Dean Koontz's FRANKENSTEIN: PRODIGAL SON. The oversized typeface meant to pad out the length of the book so they could charge $7.99 for it is a tad annoying, but the book so far is good, although the New Orleans setting adds a strange dissonance-- the book was intended to be read as being set in present day, but it's clear that this is set in the New Orleans that was, pre-Katrina.
In other news, enjoying the spell of warm weather. I know it can't last, so taking every opportunity to take advantage of it while I can.
