And she's back
Sep. 5th, 2005 08:46 amBack from a quick visit down to Florida, to see my brother, his wife, and my two nieces (Marina, 2 1/2 years old, and Camila 10 weeks old). Had a great time, but sleep deprived.
Originally I was scheduled to fly down on August 25th, but the flights were cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina which made landfall later that day. A week later the the flights were fine, but obviously Katrina was still the topic of conversation, as south Florida was very aware of how lucky they had been.
TV watching was a bizarre mix of PBS Kids channel and CNN-- brightly colored singing cartoon animals when Marina was awake, and then horrific images when she was, theoretically at least, in her bed asleep.
Came back last night and my LJ friendslist was swamped with four days of commentary on the unfolding disaster. Agreed with many of the sentiments but had to skip most of the posts because they only served to reawaken my anger and horror.
Now using today to catch up on stuff and get ready for our writer's conference coming up this weekend. Very much looking forward to 5:30 PM on Saturday at which point the conference will be over.
jennifer_dunne has promised that she will never ever ever volunteer for something like this again, and I'm going to hold her to that promise, since somehow
jennifer_dunne volunteering her time meant that I was volunteered as program chair, guest liaison, etc.
