pbray: (bike)
Back home after a great time cycling in Quebec.

Now experiencing the strange half-life when I'm no longer in vacation mode, but not quite back into the rhythm of my everyday life. Feels strange to log on after one week with no internet access-- no email, no LJ, no news of friends, nor obsessive checking of favorite websites. I'm frozen in time, ready to pick up conversations that I left a week ago, while everyone else has moved on.

Treating myself to a quiet day before the craziness that will await me at work tomorrow. So far the bike clothes are washed, and I've scanned through my e-mails.

Reading: I took along Anne Perry's NO GRAVES AS YET on vacation. I'd liked her earlier books but eventually soured on both her long term series. This book looked interesting, but I was immediately struck by the dialogue which tried for a period feel but merely came across as stiff and excessively fond of exclamation points. Also head-hopping to the point where I was so confused I had to reread one scene twice to figure out whose head we were in at different points of a conversation to see who knew what. It's not a bad book, but it's much less than it could be.

Haven't finished it yet, but set it aside to read Harry Potter 6 which a friend kindly picked up for me while I was away. I want to read it before running into spoilers which means I'd better get to it fast.
