First review of THE FIRST BETRAYAL

It's that most wonderful time of year, as the first review is up. Harriet Klausner's review of The First Betrayal was posted on BN.COM. Ms. Klausner isn't known for her critical analysis, but she's almost always the first one to post a review for new books, so it's a bit like spotting the first robin of spring. You know the others can't be far behind.

I saw that the review exists, but haven't read it yet. I almost never read my reviews--or at least not until they've been pre-screened by a minion. Even a favorable review can drive me crazy if it gets details wrong, or reveals too much of the plot.

I'm wondering about the rest of the authors on my friends' list. Do you read reviews of your work or do you find them too aggravating?

ETA: jennifer_dunne read the review and assured me that it was favorable, but also gave away key plot points. Par for the course.

I'll probably have to do a buying run before then (they get way too painful when more than a month piles up!), so I might end up not getting to buy the book until your signing. Which is good, cuz I can get it signed right away. But bad because I can't read it first. *pouts*

I have to read the reviews for my nonfiction, because I have to cite them whenever I propose a new book or series. If/when my novel gets published, I don't know. Well, yes I do, because I'm terminally curious, so I doubt I'll be able to resist. :-)

I hate reading reviews, so I try really hard not to. Even good ones make me sort of nauseated. I try to get people to forward me the good bits to use in promo stuff, but I just hate reading them.

The longer its been since the book was released, the easier it is for me to read reviews. I'll force myself to read the most important reviews, but for the rest I have a friend who helps me troll for quotes to use later.

Minions are the secret to successful careers. For now I find it best to timeshare--somedays I'm the minion and she's the successful author, and then we tradeoff and she's my minion.
