Family reunion this summer in Orlando has been booked-- I'll be converging with siblings and their spawn in the land of the Mouse. Not my first choice of where I'd pick for vacation--not even in my top hundred--but the lure of the Mouse is strong with the young ones, and I'm going simply to spend time with everyone.

My primary goal is not to do anything that will be featured on YouTube, Nancy Grace, or Americas Most Wanted, with a secondary goal of emerging from the trip all still speaking to one another.

Watch out for alligators. (Florida from my pov -- humidity and alligators. And, well, the mouse.)

Bring an umbrella that isn't black. People will be able to find you in the sea of black umbrellas that way. Ponchos that aren't yellow are good, too.

If your hotel has one, go to the jacuzzi after visiting the park. Even if you just put your feet in, it helps.

You know, you might want to add Judge Judy to that list you don't want to be found on.

If you're lucky, you might be able to check out the LEGO place there. We were unable to when we went back in 2006.

To me Florida is too hot, too crowded, way too humid, and filled with bugs. Given my druthers if I had to visit Florida in the summer I'd pick the beaches near where my brother lives.

But, alas, Orlando was the chosen destination and it does make sense for the kids, so off we go.

Smart ideas, I'll have to see if we can get color coordinated umbrellas so we'll all be easy to find.

Ooh, LEGOs would be cool. I'm also hoping for a side trip to the Kennedy Space Center, though I may have to go on my own for that one.

Cocoa Beach is only 1/2 hour away -45 minutes tops. It is worth the side trip to go see a real beach (as opposed to the Disney-sanitized ones). We did that on the Friday before we left, and I have to admit it was the best part of the trip for me.
