Starting writing THE SEA CHANGE today, the sequel to THE FIRST BETRAYAL. Made a decent if not spectacular start. The important thing in starting a novel is to recognize that yes, the first paragraph sucks. It will always suck. But you need to keep moving, to start getting words on paper. As the story idea unfolds, you'll know what to do when it comes time to fix that first paragraph.

In other news, the heatwave continues. It's hard for me to write when it is this hot-- this afternoon sweat was literally dripping off me as I sat at the computer. If I ever do get an airconditioner it's going in the writing room.

Yay!!! My first email this morning was going to ask you if you'd gotten started.

Only 395 more pages to go! (Before you gut me, remember that I'm currently looking at a blank page with "Book 3" in the header.)

I wouldn't mind a few days in the 60's, and would be happy to send you a few of our record breaking hot days.

I find it easier to write when the weather is on the cool/cold side. I've often wondered if this is part of the reason for the proliferation of genre writers in Toronto and the Minneapolis/St Paul areas :-)

And before you get to book 3 you have a few minor tasks, like moving and starting a new job :-)

I always thought it was to be closer to the publishing houses. ; )

Warm weather provides too many distractions out of doors. How can you resist the warm sunshine and the birds and the delicately scented summer breeze....

So do I, although I've always assigned this to the very long days in Alaskan summers, because who wants to be *inside* *writing* when you could be *outside* *playing*? But the heat index may well have something to do with it too.

Anyway, yay for getting started!

Sunshine spells activity, whereas everyone knows that the dark, chill days of winter are for telling stories.

A part of me is convinced that this world is real and I ought to be able to go to Google Maps and simply print out a map of the Great Basin and surrounding countries. Complete with the kind of helpful notes found in the best atlases such as "Location of border under dispute" and "This country recognized only by Empire of Vidrun".

Sadly, there is no Google function (yet) that can extract the map of world from my brain, and thus my scribbles are off to Bantam to see if they can improve upon them.
