Dripping with sweat here, as I finish polishing up The First Betrayal, where coincidentally much of the action takes place in a lizard infested tropical city.
While biking today I came up with the three basic character motivations, which I offer for your edification.
1) Oooh, shiny! Must have.
2) Hmm, puzzle. Wonder what happens when I press this button?
3) All I need is a six pack of cold beer and ESPN. Who do I have to kill to get them?
And now back to salt mines.

Date: 2005-06-13 06:09 am (UTC)And I realized: motivation is simple. Actions from those motivations might be horrendously complicated, but motivation itself, the very bare bones of it, is simple. The six-fingered man killed my father. Voila. This is the motivation for everything Inigo does for the rest of his life. I have never been so grateful as I was to that friend in that moment, I tell you, because *wow*.
So I like your motivations. Nice and simple. :)
