Proofread the copyedits for my essay "Looking out for Number One" which will be appearing in the Farscape anthology Farscape Forever!: Sex, Drugs and Killer Muppets available in September 2005 from BenBella Books.

Their house style for verb tenses is a bit odd-- references to shows which are no longer airing must be in the past tense, while references to shows like Stargate SG-1 which are still in production must be in the present tense. I understand the theory but the sentence construction became a little strange when I was trying to contrast John Crichton to Captains Kirk, Picard and Jack O'Neill in the same sentence. Still, that minor quibble aside, writing the essay was fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished book.

And on the related thought of sci-fi media, last night's Smallville episode was one of their very best. Lots of fun, and I'm glad I have it on tape so I can catch the nuances I missed the first time. But the commercials for the new Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie are just plain wrong. I listened to the original radio series when it first aired so many times that anything else seems like a bad imitation. I'd rather have the original audio tapes than the fanciest special effects and big screen presentation any day.

Congratulations on the essay! And what a cool title for the book.

Patricia, I loved your series about Devlin. When I first picked it up I thought it looked like the type of novel I'm writing, at least the angle I'm going for. Not terribly long, plenty of action, characters whose names don't look like random letter selection... I loved them.

I was sort of pulling for a romance between Devlin and Drakken, but one cannot hope for too many things!

I just wanted to introduce myself and say your journal is very interesting. Good luck with your next series, and congrats on that. I can't wait to read it.
