Another Friday

Saw the movie GI Joe last night with jpsorrow and teshilaire. So bad that it was funny--we began whispering things like "Must have been a sale on flashbacks." At one point I looked around for a Wii controller, since it was obvious that the onscreen action sequence was a video game and we were changing levels. And this from a woman who likes B-grade action films and is generally in favor of any movie where shit blows up.

For the link of the day, an article on the BBC website suggesting that cultural background plays a significant part in how we interpret facial expressions, with a significant split between Asian cultures where the eyes are the most important visual cue, while in Western cultures the mouth is also important click here to read. According to the example, this distinction also carries over to the internet, for example Westerners use :-) to express happiness while the Asian emoticon for happy focuses on the eyes (^_^) . An example of those weird bits of information that writers collect and squirrel away, and then years later it wanders into one of our stories.

mmmm, yes, we went to see that with the teenage sons the other week...

We walked rather thoughtfully to the car afterwards - where we all, pretty much as one, said, 'didn't anyone tell them that ice floats?'

And that started us on a happy drive home debating such things as putative highly secret bases having y'know, some kind of monitoring or even blocking of unauthorised transmissions, and all the rest of it.

At one point we turned to each other and said "Remember, someone was paid to write this."
