Back

Have returned home after spending Christmas in south Florida with my brother and his family. The land of t-shirts and sunscreen in December is an interesting place to visit, but in all honesty I wouldn't want to live there.

Got back last night and worked today, and will have to work sporadically over the weekend. Keeping fingers crossed that financial systems stay up and running so all I have to do is status checks.

Hope everyone is enjoying the end of year holidays. I've missed hundreds of entries on the friendslist, and must skim in hopes of catching up.

Reading: Finished DOG DAYS by John Levitt, an enjoyable read.

Welcome back! You missed the snow and someone crashing into me.

I wish I'd missed it.

Where are you on the 52 book challenge?

Yikes! Hope you're okay!

As for the challenge, I think I'll make half of what I wanted. Will total things up on January 1st-- I'm hoping to get one more book finished between now and midnight on New Year's eve :-)

Except for a fractured collarbone, which would be not much if I didn't spend approximately half my waking hours on crutches. Doc said limit crutching, I'm taking that to mean: "Don't leave the house on them things."

26 books... hmmm. I've been thinking about how many I've read this year, but I realize I have no idea. And does Deathly Hallows count as two, because I read it twice, or four, because it's so big, and I read it twice? (Okay, I do know I reread the other six in preparation.)

Sorry to hear about your collarbone :-(

I think you get a score of 2 for D.H. since you read it twice.

Personally I'm musing on the number of books I started but abandoned because they didn't hold my interest. At least one a month, though I won't count those in the total, naturally.

Yes, there are a few of those. I've always had a real problem, also, with books where I don't like the protagonist. I mean, if I don't like him, why should I care what happens to him? And there seems to be a subgenre where the whole point is to have an unlikable main character. Sometimes, unlikable characters are fun to write, but I can never make them the hero.
