Interesting number of results in the legal profession, which is a default career in my family. Not only is my brother an attorney, but three out of my nine cousins are also attorneys, and a fourth cousin who's a Jesuit studied law at Oxford.

I'm in the wrong business, apparently. There's no slot for the writer who enjoys science...my results (http://etoiline.livejournal.com/61776.html) list neither writerly pursuits nor scientific ones! So either I don't know what I like, or I defy convention. I'm going to go with defying convention.

Conspicuously absent is "writer."
Alas, I have a sausages and laws problem the test didn't ask enough questions to make these determinations :-/. Problem with being a voc professional, it's like watching a magic show when you know how the tricks are done...

You really have to wonder about these tests, though taxidermist sounds like a fine career.

The problem with these quizes is there's no box to say "It depends..."

[identity profile] jjschwabach.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
LOL.

Yes. Could you honestly see me as a taxidermist;-)? I used to have a hard time even killing off characters.

Actually, they have some very bizarre taxidermy that they display at the county fair ever year. Elks with fangs and the like. Perhaps the old Seneca legends had some truth after all...

Exactly. I kept thinking the same thing. Also an "exception if" key would be nice. I like to work with people as long as their not disgruntled at something I have absolutely no control over. And I'm great with promotional stuff, but not direct sales, so I never know how to answer that one. I did promotions in radio and I always come up with marketing ideas on a whim that make people go "Wow, that's a cool idea!" It's the asking for the money part that I can't do.

Make that their at they're. Gosh I really need to read more carefully BEFORE I hit the post button. My fingers don't seem to be attached to my brain sometimes.

Or there are things that I'm happy to do occasionally, but not for 8 straight hours a day, 5 days a week.

[identity profile] jjschwabach.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly.
A person might enjoy working for the Census, for instance, but that's for a few weeks once every ten years. Doesn't mean they want to make a career of knocking on people's doors and asking them all kinds of questions. Or, for that matter, that they want to be a telemarketer.

Does anybody want to be a telemarketer? I had a client who was one for two weeks. I asked him why he left so quickly (I actually have to ask that question) and he said the job involved calling up older people and telling them their order was "ready to be shipped" and asking for their credit card information. Once he figured out (with help from one of the people he called who was sharper than the others) that none of them had ordered anything, he left that job.

I think when you get 40 results, it means the imp in the machine couldn't make up its mind.

My actual career isn't on the list (unless #21 is Career Code for "editor"), so I've bolded those jobs that I've actually considered doing and/or done not-for-a-living:

4. Actor
5. Mediator
6. Psychiatrist

Okay, Campers, I just took the test again, trying to get specific results and got the same. I think they might be random, like the "past lives" one, only they remember your ISP?

I intentionally picked "like very much" for everything that could even vaguely be construed as writerly, and it still didn't come up.

So, it's just a game.

Anyone want to come visit me in my office and play with the real thing ;-)?

[identity profile] sylvia-rachel.livejournal.com 2007-09-16 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I've always assumed that all of these things are random, ever since the one we took in Grade 9 Health class that, as far as I could determine, predicted equal success for me in any career from long-distance truck driver to neurosurgeon...

Anyone want to come visit me in my office and play with the real thing ;-)?

Sure. Only I somehow doubt I can get to you by public transit. ;)
