Anyway, here's how I'm doing on the novel_in challenge:

Week 1:    8,750
Week 2:    2,250
Week 3:    1,000
Week 4:    2,250
Week 5:  18,000
Week 6:  14,750
Week 7:  12,750
Week 8:    6,000
Week 9:  14,000

Total since June 1st: 79,750

So damn close. 2-3 scenes left. Hopefully this weekend.

I swear I've asked you this before, but how many books do you write a year?

I'm averaging slightly more than one book a year since I started this gig, although the Regencies were 70K novels, while the fantasies are running 100-120K each, so the projects have grown. (12 books written since 1997, when I pause to do the math).

When this book is finished I'll have written 1.5 books this year, and hope to get at least another 0.5 done before December.

I have only two speeds--frantic and not writing. Hoping to change that to three speeds: frantic, writing steadily and goofing off, with an emphasis on writing steadily.

Ok. It could be that time has passed so quickly, but I could swear that you just finished a book a few months ago...unless those were revisions.

Working steadily. Yes, that is a goal. I hate the panicked feeling more than just about anything else, but I've done some of my best work with the deadline foot on my neck.

No, indeed your memory is correct, grasshopper. Being horrifically late, it was back in February that I finished the book that just hit the store shelves. Revisions on that book were done in March. Started this book in April, dawdled for a long time, and got serious about writing it in June.
