Help! Nintendo DS Lite advice?

Hypothetically speaking, if I were to buy a Nintendo DS Lite as a gift for someone, what kinds of games do they buy for it? Just regular Nintendo DS titles? Anything special I should know?

My last foray into the world of handheld videogames was quite a long, long time ago. A donkey's (kong's) years, at it were.
