Making sure we get the right turkey in the oven
Yes, that's still a favorite saying of mine as we approach Thanksgiving. Because, as someone in my family would inevitably add, we have such a wide variety of turkeys to choose from :-)
All kidding aside, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It's about spending time with family and friends. It's one of our least commercialized holidays, and for that I'm grateful. The arguments tend to be friendly wrangling over whether a 15lb bird is sufficient or if we should have gone for the 20, and if we need two kinds of gravy or just one.
Not to mention that turkey & the fixings are one of my favorite meals. Fortunately for my waistline and cholesterol count I don't eat them all that often but when I do, second helpings are a bare minimum and thirds of my favorites (turkey! turnip! dressing!) are the norm.

jennifer_dunne is back East, and we'll be repeating our annual tradition cooking dinner for her family.
Meanwhile, my sister in Denver decided that she wanted to keep the focus on others this Thanksgiving, so she and my niece Mary will spend tomorrow serving Thanksgiving dinners at a homeless shelter, and then cook their own turkey dinner on Friday. Now that's the kind of holiday spirit that matters.
Anyway, I likely won't be around on LJ for the next couple of days, so wishing all my US friends a Happy Thanksgiving!
